Whilst on holiday at the Whitsundays, Victoria Discovers decided to take a trip with Whitehaven Xpress to check out the Great Barrier Reef.
Our adventure began by being collected from our accomadation and transferred to the harbour to board the vessel Lindeman Pacific. This two story boat had inside and outside seating, two toilets and a bar serving drinks and snacks.
Our first stop was the Hill Inlet where a short walk to the top of the hill allowed us to look down at the magnificent Whitsundays in their full glory. It is worth mentioning there are a lot of steps so this would be unsuitable for prams and those in need of a walking aid.
Our next destination was to Whitehaven Beach, which is continually ranked as one of the 10 best beaches in the world. With its crystal clear waters and power soft sand it’s very easy to see why.
This is also where we had a BBQ lunch on the beach which is included in the price of the tour. A Victoria Discovers top tip is to beware of cheeky seagulls that enjoy a BBQ even more than us Aussies. There is also beer, wine and soft drinks available to purchase.
Our next port of call is what we feel separates Whitehaven Xpress from other boat operators in the area. Victoria Discovers sent 3 of our representives that all wanted to experience the magical world of the Great Barrier Reef first hand. Only one was confident enough to snorkel. Therefore under the watchful eye of the crew she took to the water and fulfilled her lifetime ambition of snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef.
The other two Victoria Discovers representatives on the excursion didn’t feel comfortable putting their face in the water. Plus one of the representative is a pre schooler. So that they didn’t miss out, Whitehaven Xpress pulled out a glass bottom boat which they boarded and viewed majesty that is the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet.
After heading back to dry land we were then taken by mini bus back to our accomadation. Again at no extra charge.
Victoria Discovers would recommend Whithaven Xpress 1 day excersion for families with young children (so parents can take it in turns to snorkel) and also for the less adventurous that still wish is experience the Great Barrier Reef but would rather remain dry.
Thank you for having us Whitehaven Xpress. Victoria Discovers has splash.
