The Great Ocean Road has earned its reputation as being “shipwreck coast” after hundreds of vessels have been lost to her coastline. However, nothing can demonstrate the shear power and danger that this coast line holds better than Thunder Point.
Situated a good 30 meters above sea level, the large free car park is at the top of the cliffs giving fantastic views. The moment Victoria Discovers stepped out of the car, we were instantly hit by the spray of the ocean. Rock pools where visible at the top of the cliffs even though they are 30 meters up. These are some seriously powerful waves.
There are cliff top walks that include walking to Shelly Beach. However, we must stress that you MUST stick to the designated footpaths due to the erosion of the unstable cliff edges.
Your heart will sure boom at Thunder Point
